Ta.co is Taco Bell’s new app and website that allows hungry patrons to customize their orders and pay for them online. The app even includes a nutrition calculator and the option to have your meal delivered and Taco Bell doesn’t stop there. They are currently testing other technologies online and in their restaurants that promise to change the way their customers eat. This mobile app is an innovation in fast food that allows people to skip the line and eat whatever they want. In a sense, ta.co is faster food.
Gone are the days when hackers focus on vulnerabilities in code, now they are coming after software developer’s tools and the potential effects are terrifying. If you want to spread malware the traditional way, you have to rely on clever schemes to pass it from person to person. However, if you plant a virus in development software, then every then every app that is created with that tool will be infected. These types of hacks used to be the worry of governments and large corporations but the attacks on Apple’s Xcode and GitHub show that the common mobile app developer is now a target.
We have all heard “10-4” being spoken by law enforcement in the movies, but “10-21” is the hot new police code in terms of mobile apps. That’s because a St. Petersburg, Florida app developer has created an app called the 10-21 app that aims to help police contact civilians. Usually, if an officer wants to place a call while on the job they can either reveal their phone number or block it. If they block their number, people are far less likely to answer which makes gathering information a hassle. The 10-21 mobile app solves the problem by generating a phone number on a recipient’s screen from the area code of the recipient. Hopefully, law enforcement officers will be able to use 10-21 to get more 10-4’s and ultimately solve more cases.
Tablets changed computing in a way that even smartphones did not. They became a substitute for a desktop or laptop while maintaining a sense of convenience that only phones can rival. Now, wearable tech developers are using the success of tablets as a case study for the future of wearable devices. Conservative estimates say that upwards of 300 million people will be using wearable devices in a couple of years. That includes fitness bands, watches, clothing, and all other forms of connected things to be worn. If the experts are right, wearable will proliferate and make information even more omnipresent in society.
